Flooding in the Potomac River, Great Falls National Park, Virginia

Spring is right around the corner ... ornamental trees in my neighborhood are beginning to flower, salamanders are on the move, and I have a ton of spring trips already planned! Here is basically the only keeper image I've shot during the month of March so far. I took this one at Great Falls National Park, VA, after a period of warm weather and rain. With all of the melting snow in West Virginia feeding the river, plus the additional rain, it was a sure bet for massive flooding ... and massive it was. This was the highest I've ever seen the river in all of my many visits. There were no waterfalls to speak of, and in fact the only area of rock you could see in the main river was the bit pictured in this photograph. It proved quite difficult to capture the grandure and power of it all, but I am happy with this one image.
