Eastern Rat Snake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis) Coiled into a Defensive Position, North Carolina

Well, I'm back from my week long trip down to North Carolina. This trip exceeded all of my expectations, and we (my friend Andrew and myself) ended up finding an absolute ton of reptiles and amphibians. I managed to photograph 11 new species, as well as one of the most insane sunsets I've ever seen. In this image I photographed an Eastern Rat Snake (in this color morph commonly known as a "Greenish Rat Snake") rearing up in a defensive posture trying to strike at us while we took photos. Eventually he became very friendly and allowed us to pick him up.
